- The Mayor of Winchester held a special event today, with members of the Royal British Legion, to remember the 80th anniversary of VJ day.
- This year’s Boomtown Festival, which finished on Sunday, had a big focus on sustainability, with a completely hydrogen-powered stage, and a “Repairium” run by volunteers from Repair Cafes across Hampshire.
- The 25th anniversary “Hampshire Open Studios” event takes place this weekend. Artists and studios across the city and beyond are throwing open their doors for visitors to come and see the works, and perhaps pick up a few tips too.
- In local sport, Winchester City Flyers, secured a 1-0 win at home in a Friendly match against Bognor Regis Town. The opening fixture for The Flyers in the Southern Region Premier Division is away to AFC Portchester on 31 August.
- Meanwhile Winchester City Football Club got the new season off to a good start last Saturday with a 2-1 win at home against Hartpury Football Club, but they then lost 1-0 on Tuesday evening away to Westbury United. This Saturday, Winchester City take on Bashley at home in the F.A. Cup Preliminary Round.
- In cricket, the St. Cross Symondians First XI will also be playing at home this Saturday against Bashley (Rydal) First XI.
- Next year, the Catholic Parish of St Peter & the Winchester Martyrs is celebrating the 100th anniversary since the official opening of St. Peter’s Church on Jewry St. Anna talks to Patrick Cahill, Chair of the Centenary Committee about their plans.

- To Farrah Turvey from the Winchester City Flyers who has received an award for Female Referee of the Year.
- To MHA Central Hampshire who mark 25 years of providing its service for older people in Winchester.
- To everyone who took part in the Colour Run fundraiser for the Hampshire Hospitals Charity, which has raised well over £11, 000 so far, with more sponsorship still coming in.
- To an anonymous Good Samaritan in Twyford who, seeing a partially-sighted lady struggling along a popular footpath due to overhanging branches, returned with tools to cut back the overhang and straighten a wooden fence.
- To St Catherine’s View Dementia Care Home who held their annual charity summer fete, in the grounds of St. Peter’s Primary School in Oliver Battery, raising £1,300 for the home’s Charity of the Year, the Carroll Centre in Stanmore.
- To the volunteers at Winchester Parkrun – the event was back running again last Saturday after not being able to take place for 3 consecutive weeks due to other big events happening at the North Walls Recreation Ground.
