- Hampshire Police are asking the public for help following an incident in the early hours of Thursday morning this week where a young man was assaulted by a bladed weapon in Winchester city-centre.
- Hampshire County Council at a meeting of their Cabinet this morning, have approved proposed budget savings of nearly £10million across 4 areas.
- Hampshire Police are warning older residents to be aware of an increase in telephone message deceptions from scammers texting and purporting to be their grown-up children in urgent need of money. This has resulted in a number of people transferring funds to fraudsters.
- This year marked the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. A series of commemorative events took place across the world to mark this, including a special Mayors for Peace event here in Winchester. Mary Blaxland from Winchester Radio went along to Abbey House to find out more.
- Volunteering opportunities currently available in Winchester-based organisations:
- Winchester Bereavement Support are seeking new volunteers with empathetic listening skills to train as Bereavement Support Visitors to help people going through grief.
- The Catholic Parish of St Peter and the Winchester Martyrs are seeking people with skills in marketing, communications and event management to help with the parish’s Centenary celebrations for 2026.
- Winchester Beacon are searching for additional volunteers to help them support people experiencing homelessness. They have a range of volunteer roles available at their base on Jewry Street.

- A crowd-funding campaign to save a music venue pub in Winchester has had an incredible response from the public with over £35k raised so far.
- Alexis Boon, the newly appointed Chief Constable of Hampshire started his job this week. He has promised to work closely with communities to help tackle crime.
- Police are investigating a series of car break-ins in the Alresford area which resulted in items such as phones, cash and jewellery being stolen. Officers are keen to hear from people in the local area where the thefts occurred with CCTV footage.
- A long-standing Winchester café in the city-centre has closed after nearly 25 years of trading. Owner sad at closure and blamed mounting pressures on the hospitality industry
- After an increase in wildfires during the hot weather, Hampshire Fire and Rescue are urging the public to be more vigilant and careful with BBQs and bonfires, and disposing of smoking materials
- Sunday 5th October marks the next Clarendon Marathon event. Organised by Winchester Rotary, with well over 200 volunteers helping on the day, the event supports many charities. Mary talks to the Chair of the Clarendon organising committee to hear how the community can get involved and support this not-for-profit event.

- To all the winners and nominees of the Hampshire People Awards, for their outstanding contributions and care of patients across the hospitals in Andover, Basingstoke and here in Winchester.
- To the University of Winchester and its King Alfred campus for receiving its Green Flag Award again in recognition of its grounds and green spaces.
- To everyone who took part and supported the Clarendon Way Walk in aid of Naomi House and Jack’s Place. This annual event has raised over £105k for the charity.
- To all the volunteers who worked on the “Magnificent Meadows” project, restoring chalk grassland from Bar End to the South Downs.
- To all those involved in the animals attending a recent Open Day at the Dower House in Kings Worthy – older residents enjoyed visits from a host of farmyard animals, and the day raised £600 for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
